McKayla Maroney Is Not Impressed: Meme Gets A Halloween Costume

The “McKayla Maroney is not impressed” meme has had a long life span, lasting so long it became a McKayla Maroney Halloween costume.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, McKayla Maroney’s face after winning “only” a silver medal as gymnast became both infamous and a meme that continues to spread all over the internet.

Within hours of returning to her dorm room after the famous moment, Maroney recalls being called disrespectful and spoiled:

“It was just a moment of complete shock. I can’t even remember much of that day. I remember the day before watching other Americans on the medal stand and hearing the anthem. I remember wishing it had gone differently, and I had an expression on my face for two seconds. I’m not a brat. There were people who really hurt my feelings, people who were saying things that just weren’t true.”

But, while the criticism stung at first, talk show hosts wanted to discuss why McKayla Maroney is not impressed. She even got to try out her famous trademark scowl on President Obama (considering the President’s approval rating, Maroney is probably not alone), and she’s probably impressed with the endorsement deals headed her way.

And it turns out McKayla Maroney has never been impressed. Even when she was eight years old, she was spotted on video with almost the exact same expression when talking to someone in the crowd. So, if anything, it’s probably a lifelong personality quirk and shouldn’t be taken as an insult if she quivers her lips at you.

But a college student named Leslie Barrett was diagnosed with Bell’s palsy disease which could paralyze her face. A friend pointed out how her face looked like McKayla Maroney’s famous expression, so she decided to turn it into a Halloween costume:

“It was the first time in months I got to look like I was intentionally making a face and it has helped me deal with the slow recovery a little better.”

I would say McKayla Maroney would be impressed by that Halloween costume and the positive attitude it portrays. What do you think?
