Philadelphia Eagles Lose 15-7 To Giants, Lose Ineffective Vick To Hamstring

The Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback situation went from bad to worse in Sunday’s 15-7 loss to the New York Giants. Eagles QB Michael Vick was ineffective before leaving the game in the second half after aggravating his hamstring, putting Philadelphia backup Matt Barkley in for the second straight week.

Eagles coach Chip Kelly was left with few options heading into the home game against the Giants; Vick had injured his hamstring in Philadelphia’s win over the Giants in week five. Eagles backup QB Nick Foles did well in a win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but was sidelined after suffering a concussion in a poor performance against Dallas, as the Cowboys beat the Eagles 17-3. That leaves Barkley, an unproven rookie Philadelphia had drafted in the fourth round of the 2013 draft. Barkley completed 17 of his 26 attempts for the Eagles, racking up 158 passing yards and throwing an interception while being sacked three times and fumbling thrice, one of which resulted in another Philadelphia turnover.

Neither team’s offense scored a touchdown in the game; Giants kicker Josh Brown booted a career-high five field goals and Philadelphia scored on a botched Giants punt, with LB Najee Goode scooping it up from 2 yards out for the TD.

With Vick and Foles both still questionable for Philadelphia’s roadtrip to Oakland, Kelly addressed the Eagles QB situation, once again assessing Vick and Foles, as such when heading off to face the Raiders:

“[Foles] still hasn’t been cleared to fully practice, so that’s a big question mark going into next week,” Kelly said. “I really don’t know. It really depends on the full report on Mike and the full report on Nick.”

“I think when you’re unsettled at that position in this league, it’s real difficult,” Kelly added.

Vick will be an unrestricted free agent after this season and wants to stick around Philadelphia, but Eagles fans and brass have to be concerned with his propensity for injury. Playing hurt turns him into a packet passer without his trademark mobility.

What do you think of the Philadelphia Eagles’ QB situation? Should the Philadelphia Eagles sign Tim Tebow? Who will start at QB for the Philadelphia Eagles against the Oakland Raiders?
