Katie Holmes Joins Twitter, Posts Personal Photo

In another move that sees Katie Holmes out from under ex-husband Tom Cruise’s thumb, the Dawson’s Creek alum has decided to play around with her social media presence by joining Twitter. Once known for her quiet disposition at Tom Cruise’s side, it seems like now Katie is starting to branch out and redefine herself as a person and a brand.

Katie Holmes’ move to Twitter is most likely an effort to promote herself, and to get her career back on track. If we have learned anything from social media it’s that it helps with relevancy in Hollywood. It looks like Holmes is already on the right track, as she scored a whopping 5,000 followers in the first few hours that she joined Twitter. In total Holmes has 17,000 followers and counting. Not too shabby!

It’s obvious that Katie Holmes will probably stick to business-related tweets on her Twitter account. Even so, it appears as though Holmes is tweeting out to her fans, rather than letting her publicist or a ghost tweeter act on behalf of her account.

Since joining Twitter Katie Holmes has sent out tweets about various projects she’s involved with. One of them is Bobbi Brown’s makeup company, in which Holmes has a makeup line that’s supported by the beauty brand, and is also its ambassador.

Katie’s first tweet was a picture from South Africa, with her cast from The Giver:

So far Katie has decided to follow businesses that she’s involved with, and brands that are similar. Currently Holmes is following The New York Times, SoulCycle, BobbiBrown Cosmetics, Bobbi Brown, and television heads like Lara Cohen, and Albert Bianchini. If one isn’t familiar with Holmes’ new projects, it may be a surprise to see that Katie is following Taylor Swift. Currently the two gals are filming the film adaptation of The Giver.
