Billie Joe Armstrong To Release Everly Brothers Album With Norah Jones

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong has a soft side, and we’ll be hearing it on his new album. The Green Day frontman who’s known for his punk rock roots has decided to “go soft” after chilling out with indie-jazz singer Norah Jones. The two have decided to combine their talents and are coming out with an Everly Brothers cover album. Yes, you heard that right; Billie Joe and Norah Jones are making sweet music together.

Billie Joe Armstrong and Norah Jones met up in New York City to bang out a few tunes, and what resulted was a full album of Everly Brothers’ tunes from the album, Songs Out Daddy Taught Us. The original 1950s album is considered a classic for The Everly Brothers, and Billie Joe and Norah Jones decided to bring a new twist to the songs with their strong harmonies.

For Billie Joe Armstrong, this was the opportunity to show off his subtle vocal range and it proves to be something uniquely special when it’s mixed with Norah Jones’ vocals. The two spoke about the project to Stereogum about how their duet came to be.

Of how the project came about Armstrong said:

“I got into the Everly Brothers’ record a couple years ago and I thought it was just beautiful. I was listening to it every morning for a while off and on. I thought it would be cool to remake the record because I thought it was sort of an obscure thing and more people should know about it. my wife said, “Why don’t you get Norah Jones to do it?” and I was like, “Well, I kinda know her.” Well, I mean, we had Stevie Wonder in common. And so I called her and she said yes.”

The album called Foreverly will hit stores on November 25.
