Zoom: ‘The Flash’ Season 2 Has Finally Cast Its Big Bad?

Zoom, The Flash season 2 big bad that came unshockingly to season 1 viewers, is a lot like Reverse-Flash. Though, according to the Inquisitr, Tom Cavanagh appears to be returning as either Reverse-Flash or Dr. Harrison Wells. Therefore, Zoom has yet to be cast, or much more than an announcement to his existence has been heard thus far. According to Comic Vine News, Zoom has finally been cast , well — sort-of.

Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg dropped the news that the Candyman himself, Tony Todd, will voice the new big bad Zoom in The Flash season 2. He compared Todd voicing Zoom, as James Earl Jones to Darth Vader.

“Last year, with the Reverse-Flash, we just modulated Tom Cavanagh’s voice, and this year we wanted to do something a little bit different. Part of the mystery of the season is who or what is underneath the Zoom outfit, and so we wanted to do something like James Earl Jones as Darth Vader — this iconic voice coming out of this mask. Last year, we thought of the Reverse-Flash as a speed warrior; this year, Zoom is like a speed demon, and no one does demon-voice better than Tony Todd.”

According to Variety , Kreisberg stated that unlike the Reverse-Flash/Eobard Thawne introduction , the Zoom reveal will be much slower. Kreisberg likened the Zoom reveal in The Flash season 2 to a horror movie, which with Tony Todd voicing the character it does seem to make sense, as in “Who’s the killer, who’s under the mask?”

“For us, the best villains are the ones who don’t have megalomaniacal ‘I want to rule the world’ motivations. Last year, the Reverse-Flash had a very simple goal which was, ‘I just want to go home, and if people need to die or cities need to get wasted for me to get that, so be it.’ And Zoom has a very similar, personal goal this season… simple and easy to understand, and very primal. And just as with Wells last year, Zoom doesn’t care who gets hurt or what gets destroyed in the service of him getting his goal.”

Zoom, the second Reverse-Flash in DC Comics, seems to have a somewhat similar agenda. Though, at this point, we do not know exactly what that is. Just like the Reverse-Flash, in The Flash season 2, Zoom will have a CW-designed story. Kreisberg hopes that fans like what they have come up with.

“So the story of Zoom and who and what he is… hopefully comic book fans will be happy because we’ve come up with a clever way to spin the tale, but that also makes it exciting for the people who aren’t as familiar with the comics and are just enjoying the show on its own terms.”

Judging how The Flash season 1 turned out, and the critics response, it’s a safe bet that they trust Kreisberg and company with season 2.
