Zombie Apocalypse: How The State Of Kansas Is Officially Preparing For A ‘Walking Dead’ Scenario

A zombie apocalypse isn’t about to catch the state of Kansas by surprise.

Officials in the state are taking the premise of The Walking Dead and countless other zombie movies to heart in October, declaring it “Zombie Preparedness Month.”

The month is meant to help people get ready for more plausible disaster scenarios like blizzards or floods.

“If you’re prepared for zombies, you’re prepared for anything,” the state noted in preparing for the zombie apocalypse.

“If you’re equipped to handle the zombie apocalypse then you’re prepared for tornadoes, severe storms, fire and any other natural disaster Kansas usually faces,” said a Kansas state official. “This is a fun and low-stress way to get families involved, and past turnouts have proven it to be effective.”

Kansas isn’t the only government getting ready for a zombie apocalypse. A few years ago the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released their own plans for the event of a zombie apocalypse.

“There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for. Take a zombie apocalypse for example,” the CDC noted. “That’s right, I said z-o-m-b-i-e a-p-o-c-a-l-y-p-s-e. You may laugh now, but when it happens you’ll be happy you read this, and hey, maybe you’ll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency.”

The CDC went on to give people some hints on how to survive if the dead suddenly rose from their graves and walked among the living:

So what do you need to do before zombies…or hurricanes or pandemics for example, actually happen? First of all, you should have an emergency kit in your house. This includes things like water, food, and other supplies to get you through the first couple of days before you can locate a zombie-free refugee camp (or in the event of a natural disaster , it will buy you some time until you are able to make your way to an evacuation shelter or utility lines are restored). Below are a few items you should include in your kit, for a full list visit the CDC Emergency page .

Kansas officials plan to hold public meetings on the zombie apocalypse and will hand out emergency supplies at the end of the month. Hopefully the zombies won’t come before then.
