‘Zelda’ Wii U: Unreal Engine 4 Used To Recreate Temple Of Time [Video]

The Legend of Zelda on Wii U has been in development for quite some time, and so far Nintendo has shown us nothing about the progress of the title. This isn’t surprising, considering how even Ubisoft has been with news surrounding their latest Assassin’s Creed titles.

Sometimes the less you know, the more interested you’ll be when announcements are made.

Just yesterday, it was announced that Mario Kart 8 would achieve the graphics that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One strive for, a hefty 1080p 60fps, so now we know that the Wii U can handle that level of graphics. Can Nintendo continue to push their console to its limits and give us a true “next gen” experience in other flagship franchises?

One man, using Unreal Engine 4 (which can be used on Wii U), took the Temple of Time from The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time and recreated it with breathtakingly sharp and realistic graphics. It took him six months to create his vision of what could be, but it shows us what Zelda Wii U could look like if Nintendo really tried. If one man could render that level of graphics in the span of a few months, imagine what Nintendo could do in just over a year.

Michael Eurek used an iconic location shared between two Zelda titles as an example of what Unreal Engine 4 can do if Nintendo is determined about getting gamers to take the Wii U seriously. The Temple of Time is where the hero of the series, Link, goes in Ocarina of Time to get the Master Sword and travel back and forth in the timeline. The same temple is also available to visit in Twilight Princess , so Nintendo isn’t above using the same locations twice.

If Nintendo could make their latest Zelda title look like Michael Eurek ‘s efforts, they might see gamers give the failing console a second glance. After all, the console isn’t just for portable games. The Wii U can be connected to your HDTV as well and thanks to Mario Kart 8 , we know it’s capable of the same resolution as the PS4 and Xbox One.

Zelda Wii U still doesn’t have a solid release date yet, though it’s expected to hit in early 2015. If Nintendo can make it look like Eurek’s efforts above, gamers might just give the struggling pioneer of the gaming industry another try.
