Zayn Malik is preparing for a very public appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards. It’ll be one of his first appearances since dropping out of One Direction. It’s rumored Zayn Malik will perform new material alongside another pop standout, and all clues point to Zayn teaming up with The Weeknd for a surprise performance.
It’s likely Zayn and The Weeknd have been preparing material we don’t know about. The Weeknd has been all over the charts with new material that is surprisingly good since his recent transformation into a pop artist. It could be the perfect way to introduce long awaited new music from Zayn.
According to the Mirror, Zayn is rehearsing for a magical appearance tonight.
“One Direction fans are going to be in for quite the treat as it looks like Zayn Malik will be taking to the stage at tonight’s MTV Video Music Awards. The newly single star is reportedly set to perform at the annual bash. Former boy band star Zayn looks set to take to the stage with American star The Weeknd, who has teamed up with likes of Ed Sheeran and Kanye West on his upcoming album.”
Malik broke from One Direction in the middle of their tour last March, and has since moved into preparing a solo career. The sudden departure didn’t seem to ruffle other One Direction members until recent One Direction and Zayn Malik twitter activity seemed to indicate the remaining group members and Malik were growing apart from each other. That, and the latest One Direction song, “Drag Me Down,” which can be interpreted as a shot at Malik.
One Direction’s mentor, Simon Cowell, also hasn’t been pleased with Malik lately. Speaking to the Irish Examiner , he described what he thought of Malik’s behavior after the split .
“With Zayn I just think he needs to get a sense of perspective back in his life, which is that he had a really great opportunity, he decided for whatever reason he didn’t want to do it anymore so maybe just keep quiet for a while, make a great record and enjoy life.”
Tonight’s MTV Video Music Awards are hosted by Miley Cyrus. Expect to see performances from music’s hottest stars. There are sure to be plenty of memorable performances. If Zayn Malik takes does, in fact, take the stage, this could be another historic night, right up there with Miley Cyrus’ exquisite twerking display from previous years.
