It’s very rarely that fans get to see Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid interact on social media. The young stars took to Twitter on Friday following the release of Zayn’s debut solo music video for “Pillowtalk.”
Zayn Malik, 22, kicked things off when he asked his rumored girlfriend Gigi Hadid, 20, if she has seen his new music video. Of course millions of his fans have already seen the titillating video repeatedly.

The flirty exchange looked pretty awkward to their fans. One fan suggested that Malik and Hadid should “get a room,” while another jokingly wrote, “Can we be good friends?”
That fan was talking about Zayn’s interview with Zane Lowe on his Apple Music Beats 1 radio show. The former 1D member was asked if he was dating the blonde beauty, but Zayn insisted that they’re just good pals.
But Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik sure looked more than just friends in the “Pillowtalk” video. The debut solo music video was released on early Friday morning and has already been viewed over two million times on YouTube. It features Malik and Hadid wrapping their arms around each other and kissing.

The couple has been rumored to be dating since November, when they were first spotted together at a Billboard Music Awards after-party together. Some reports suggested that Zayn and Gigi were planning on taking their whirlwind relationship to the next level by moving in together in New York since they were spotted looking at apartments to rent in SoHo in early January. Not to mention, Gigi and Zayn have been spotted holding hands together at The Nice Guy several times.
It doesn’t make sense as to why Malik would refer to Hadid as his “friend.” The model has been spotted wearing his initial pendant around his birthday, and even has a photo of Malik as her phone’s lock screen.
But it could be possible that Zayn and Gigi want to keep their relationship as casual possible. Maybe they’re just friends with benefits who casually hook up when they can. After all, Zayn is busy embarking on his solo music career while Gigi is busy modeling at Fashion Week in various cities across the globe.
It’s also likely that Malik called Hadid just a “friend” because they don’t want to go public with their relationship just yet.
An insider revealed to the Hollywood Life that Kendall Jenner’s friend thinks that the British crooner is filled with plenty of surprises. Apparently, Zayn is a lot more creative and thrilling than Gigi’s previous boyfriends, Joe Jonas and Cody Simpson.
“Zayn writes poetry for her and paints graffiti on his outdoor walls as gifts for Gigi. He’s full of surprises and being with him is always an adventure. He’s more exciting than her last boyfriends!”
It’s not just a one-sided relationship. Just one day after his grandmother passed away, Hadid was seen comforting Malik in New York City on Jan. 6. The couple was spotted holding hands after leaving a building.
The dark-haired Brit tweeted, “Thank you for your support and love.. My grandma was a beautiful person and will be missed dearly x.”
Even with the awkward flirting on social media, it seems like these two are the real deal even if they say they’re just friends. But if your friend is attractive, then why not date them?
