After he’s finished with Man Of Steel, blockbuster director Zack Snyder will be getting his feet wet in a galaxy far far away.
It was previously reported that Snyder is not interested in directing Star Wars: Episode VII . At the time, he said:
“I don’t think I’d be interested in [directing it]. I’m a huge Star Wars fanatic. I just think doing [episodes] seven, eight, and nine is just a slippery slope. It’s a whole other mythological experiment I’m excited to see, but it’s a lot of effort.”
According to a Vulture exclusive, Snyder is interested in working in the Star Wars universe and is developing a story to tell within it but that is separate from the Skywalker storyline.
Sources believe that Zack Snyder’s Star Wars movie will be set as a parallel story to the new trilogy of films and will be loosely based on Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 classic Seven Samurai .
The news of a Snyder’s new Star Wars film means that the next phase of Star Wars brand development is much larger than previously believed.
After acquiring Star Wars , Disney CEO Bob Iger said:
“Our long term plan is to release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years.”
It appears that plan includes film’s like Snyder’s and that Disney is taking an approach similar to what Marvel did with The Avengers .
Production on Zack Snyder’s Star Wars would begin after production starts on Star Wars: Episode VII , which currently has a 2015 release date.

UPDATE Since the initial post was written, Snyder’s camp released an official statement to The Hollywood Reporter denying Snyder’s involvement in the Star Wars universe:
“While he is super-flattered because he is a huge fan, Zack is not involved in any way with the new Star Wars . He is currently in post on his two films, Man of Steel and 300: Battle of Artemisia. “
It looks like Snyder will not be leaving his unique mark on the Star Wars universe after all. Do you think this is good or bad news?
