A 30-year-old woman has died and two other women are injured after an incident with a U-Haul truck at the Yale-Harvard game this morning in Connecticut.
The accident occurred at around 9:30 AM in a parking lot “notorious” for tailgating parties at the Yale Bowl in New Haven. Eyewitness accounts have reportedly suggested several precipitates for the crash, with some present saying the U-Haul truck suddenly accelerated forward without warning and others indicating the driver may have succumbed to “road rage” because the women were not moving fast enough.

The driver of the van lost control of the vehicle as he was pulling into Lot D of Yale Bowl’s main parking area and the vehicle suddenly accelerated, striking the women and then crashing into other vehicles, said New Haven Police spokesman Dave Hartman.
The incident happened an hour and 45 minutes after the parking lot opened for tailgating at about 8 a.m., police said.
The vehicle has been impounded and the driver is in police custody, local press reports. The lot has been cordoned off with crime scene tape as witnesses to the fatal accident are interviewed by law enforcement officials. Police have not publicly identified the woman, who was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead at 10:16 AM. It has not yet been determined if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
This morning’s football game is a yearly tradition, and the culmination of the Yale-Harvard football rivalry. The Harvard Crimson and Yale Bulldogs have been engaged in the rivalry since 1875.
