The WWE Network is a streaming service with a presentation skirting the thin line of propaganda. On one end, WWE fans get access to a lot of content, including every single pay-per-view. On the other, all that is promised hasn’t been delivered and there tends to be more cons than pros, as reported in a review of the WWE Network , here on The Inquisitr . Despite this, one such jewel on the network is WWE Legends’ House , and during its finale yesterday, a surprising revelation was revealed: one of the old WWE executives is gay.
For those who don’t know the details of WWE Legends’ House , it is an original series available only on the WWE Network that copies the format of other reality television shows, primarily The Surreal Life . Eight legends in the wrestling business live underneath the same roof and along the way, they participate in challenges provided by the show’s host, Ashley. Just like reality television, the challenges are off-the-wall and entertaining to watch, such as a game show or live action role playing. Mostly, the entire series has been good fun, but the last few episodes touched a more emotional point as the WWE legends started to open up about their lives.
According to Yahoo TV , during the finale, all seven of the WWE legends – Jimmy Hart, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Mean Gene Ockerlund, Tony Atlas, Hillbilly Jim, Howard Finkel, and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper – were sitting at the dinner table, enjoying deliciously designed food and indulging in camaraderie, when the eight WWE legend, Pat Patterson, asked everyone to talk about a major part of their lives. Some of the most tear-jerking confessions came out, such as Jimmy Hart remaining civil throughout the season when his daughter passed away just before the show. However, Pat Patterson would really open up his soul when he stated the following:
“Sitting here tonight, I’m going to say something that I would never want to say publicly. But being here with you guys, for once in my life, I’m going to be me now. I survived all this being gay.”
Mean Gene knew about Pat Patterson’s sexual orientation. He talked about knowing the first Intercontinental Champion and his life partner, who passed away after forty years. Mean Gene even said that Patterson’s partner was one of the nicest people he had ever met.
Though in today’s society the LGBT movement is bigger and more accepted, the fact that Pat Patterson held in this secret for over forty years, especially working in the WWE, says a lot. Now for old school wrestling fans, especially those who grew up on WWE, this is the worst kept secret in the wrestling business. In another article by Bleacher Report , Pat Patterson’s sexual orientation has been known in the business for some time, but it was never officially announced until just recently. Nevertheless, all the other WWE legends supported him in finally coming out.
Historically, Pat Patterson is the second WWE personality to come out of the closet. Back in 2013, WWE superstar, Darren Young , came out as the first openly gay wrestler in the company, as reported here as well.
