WWE News: Update On Sheamus — Will He Return At WrestleMania?

Early last month, WWE began promoting that former WWE Champion Sheamus would be returning to action, presumably in the near future, as they didn’t give an exact date. Now it appears that WWE is holding off Sheamus’s return until WrestleMania , as there are plans to have him show up as a surprise, and win the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

There have also been rumors of Sheamus returning and being the eighth man added to the Intercontinental Championship ladder match. But, as of right now, that is not the plan.

Sheamus has been out of action since November of last year, and has been ready to return to action for some time now. Some people thought that he would return as a surprise entrant in this year’s Royal Rumble match. But WWE didn’t want to do the same thing with him two years in a row, as he returned from injury as a surprise entrant in last year’s Royal Rumble match.

Before Daniel Bryan was officially added to the Intercontinental Championship ladder match, it was expected that he would take on the returning Sheamus at WrestleMania , with Sheamus returning as a heel. But, as of right now, the plans for Sheamus to return as a heel have been scrapped, and he will be a babyface at WrestleMania .

It’s possible that WWE could turn Sheamus heel after he wins the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal and make him the number one contender for Roman Reigns’ newly won WWE World Heavyweight Championship, as WWE is lacking new heel contenders for the title. But it’s more likely that WWE will have Seth Rollins be Reigns’ first challenger after WrestleMania .

Former WWE play-by-play announcer and WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross believes that WWE should have Sheamus return as a heel because it would freshen up his character, and because Ross believes that Sheamus more of a natural heel than a babyface.

Sheamus, 37, has missed nine of the last 24 months of action due to injury, and WWE is concerned that Sheamus has become injury prone over the last couple of years, which could prevent them from putting him in a main-event position again.
