Roman Reigns was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Granted, he won the chance to headline WrestleMania 31 with Brock Lesnar, but Philadelphia booed him out of the Wells Fargo Arena. While the WWE World Heavyweight champion competed in one of the best matches in recent memory, Reigns was the talk of the WWE town after his controversial victory in the Royal Rumble match.
After the match, Reigns was caught on camera following his huge victory, and it seemed that the “boos” were affecting his mood after the Royal Rumble .
The Philadelphia-crowd wasn’t shy about their displeasure with the result of the WWE Royal Rumble match, as they were sure that Daniel Bryan would finally win the Royal Rumble and go win the championship he truly never lost. As the crowd got worse, so did the product in the ring.
That’s truly subjective, but with Dolph Ziggler, Dean Ambrose, and Bray Wyatt dumped over the top rope with ease by the Big Show and Kane, the WWE Universe felt insulted. Twitter is a great place to announce feelings on any subject. In WWE’s case, it was a place to vent.
Last night, a hashtag trended worldwide that WWE never expected. “#CancelWWENetwork” trended worldwide at #1 last night and was #2 for most of today. Even WWE superstars weighed in on the reaction to Reigns winning last night. One man that put out a cryptic tweet was their top star, John Cena.

There’s a slight chance that Cena was talking about his loss to Seth Rollins and Brock Lesnar, but the usage of the word “we” insinuates that he meant the WWE as a whole. If it wasn’t bad enough that Philadelphia “poorly booked” the Royal Rumble match, the WWE Network took a hit as well. Earlier today on the Inquisitr , thousands of WWE fans cancelled their WWE Network subscriptions.
The number that is rumored right now is over 273,000 subscriptions were cancelled after last night’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view. WWE doesn’t have many options, as the WWE Universe is fairly disgruntled with the result. Listening to the entire Royal Rumble match taught WWE fans that Daniel Bryan is the most “over” superstar on the roster.
Eliminating Bryan after only 10-minutes of in-ring competition ruined the crowd’s hot momentum that it has accrued throughout the night. The Philadelphia crowd was even lively during the Diva’s tag-team match. WWE has another week until Monday Night Raw is live again with a new show, so changes to the booking of WrestleMania 31 are possible.
