Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan has been out-of-action for nearly six months now due to him suffering a concussion, and it’s still unclear when, or if, he’ll ever return to the ring.
Bryan, who has been wrestling for nearly two decades, has said in previous interviews that his in-ring wrestling career isn’t over, and, if WWE never clears him to wrestle, he’ll leave and go wrestle for someone else. Bryan has also said that he has been cleared to wrestle by his personal doctor, but WWE has been very hesitant to clear him.
There’s no question that Daniel Bryan is itching to get back into the ring, as he said in an interview with Sport 360 that, if WWE called him and asked him to wrestle tomorrow, he would. Bryan also continued to suggest that his wrestling career isn’t over, even if WWE management believes that it is.
“No, [my career is not over], at least not in my mind. WWE might be thinking that, but I feel great. I feel like I’m ready to wrestle. If they called me to wrestle tomorrow I would. It’s just a matter of getting cleared. I’ve had a long history of concussions, so they are a bit hesitant to get me back.”
Before this past Sunday’s Night of Champions show, there was some speculation that Daniel Bryan would end up being Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose’s mystery partner in their match against the Wyatt Family. However, the mystery man ended up being Chris Jericho, who ended up costing the two former Shield members the match, which will likely lead to a Dean Ambrose vs. “Y2J” feud that will culminate in a match at WrestleMania 32 next year.
There’s also been some speculation that WWE is purposely not clearing Daniel Bryan to wrestle because they don’t want him to ruin their WrestleMania main-event plans for the third year in a row. In other words, WWE could be holding off Bryan’s return until after WrestleMania 32 .
Before Bryan was injured, WWE was planning on having him restore prestige to the Intercontinental Championship, much like John Cena has restored prestige to the United States Championship. Bryan loved the idea, and he even took it a step further, saying that he wanted to make the Intercontinental Title exclusive to SmackDown and become the face of WWE’s Thursday night show.
If Daniel Bryan returns, he’ll likely be thrown back into the Intercontinental Title picture due to the fact that he never lost the title. But, when, or if that’ll happen is anybody’s guess.
