Diana Hart Smith, who was married for many years to Davey Boy Smith (The British Bulldog), is reportedly making an attempt to get her late ex-husband inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame .
During a wrestling convention last week in London, Diana had a petition on her table looking for signatures to start a grass roots movements to get Davey inducted. Diana also reportedly has contacted Stephanie McMahon to ask why Davey Boy is not in the Hall of Fame. Next year’s WWE Hall of Fame induction will take place during WrestleMania 32 weekend in Dallas, Texas.
Diana and Davey Boy Smith were divorced in 2000, just two years before his untimely death in 2002 at the age of 39. She is the sister of Bret and Owen Hart, and Diana has been involved in on camera WWE storylines several times over the years.
When her brother Bret and Davey faced off for the WWE Intercontinental Title at SummerSlam 1992 in the U.K., Diana was portrayed by the WWE television cameras as being torn between supporting her brother or her husband.
Two years later (1994), when Bret was feuding with his younger brother Owen, Diana was shown (along with the rest of the family) at different times throughout the feud. The most memorable moment came at SummerSlam 1994 in Chicago following a WWE championship cage match between Bret and Owen. After Bret successfully retained his championship, Jim Neidhart turned on his family to join Owen in the cage in a two-on-one beatdown of the Hitman. All the Hart brothers attempted to save Bret, but it was a returning “British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith who made the greatest impact.
Davey had just returned to the WWE after a brief stint with WCW. Davey had went to the rival WCW following his 1992 dismissal from WWE due to a failed drug test, which occurred during the height of the federal government’s investigation into Vince McMahon and alleged steroid abuse in his company.
All in all, the “British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith certainly had a career that was hall of fame worthy. He first made a name for himself in Stu Hart’s Calgary territory (where he met his future wife, Diana), became a megastar in Japan and the WWE alongside the “Dynamite Kid” Tom Billington as one half of one of the greatest tag teams of the 1980s (The British Bulldogs), and he finished out his career in the 1990s as a singles star.
Smith was a former WWF Intercontinental (one time), Tag Team (two times), European (two times), and Hardcore (2 times Champion).
