WWE Looking To Recruit Ex-NFL Players

World Wrestling Entertainment ( WWE ) is looking to recruit ex-NFL players after they leave the game. The popular show wants to collaborate with the NFL in hopes of bringing in their retired players to join the wrestling spectacle.

The WWE’s Jim Ross met with the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) on Wednesday to discuss the idea of bringing ex-NFLers to the show, even those who are cut from rosters and can’t hack it in the league. Ross is a WWE announcer who has recently become an assistant to the company’s talent-development program.

Before meeting with the NFL, Ross addressed the collaboration on SiriusXM NFL radio .

“Everybody doesn’t make the 53-man roster,” Ross told Jim Miller and Alex Marvez on the radio show Tuesday night.

“Some guys are going to be looking for work, and we’ve got some job openings,” he added. “Maybe we can put the synergies of those two entities together and create something wonderful some day.”

Ross’ “something wonderful” may actually work, as NFL players train and workout as much as any athlete there is. Some football standouts have already become hits with the WWE, most notably Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson who went from being a National Champion at the University of Miami to becoming the “people’s champion” in the ring for the WWE.

Before appearing on the show, Johnson also spent time in the Canadian Football League for the Calgary Stampeders, though he was cut two months into the 1995 season. Since joined the WWE, the 41-year-old has turned into a movie star that’s starred in major roles such as The Fast The Furious series, The Rundown , and Walking Tall .

The idea of bringing in NFL players is slowly adding up, as WWE wrestlers have a lot in common with players on the gridiron. Athleticism, body build, strength, and the ability to take hits is just the start of many reasons why the connection could work if a system is set in place.

Do you think bringing in ex-NFL players is a good idea for the WWE?
