Even though smoking has been totally banned on domestic and international flights since the early nineties, a woman decided she just had to light up on an American Airlines flight from Nicaragua to Miami before entering into a prolonged anti-American rant.
Much to the dismay of her fellow passengers, the woman began puffing away on a cigarette, in front of flight attendants, before proclaiming, “The United States has declared war on Venezuela. Venezuela has been declared a national security threat.”
To that, a passenger can be heard off camera saying, “You’re a national security threat,” while another passenger joked, “She’s gangster,” talking about the woman.
Reports have confirmed that the woman was warned by flight attendants that police would be waiting for her in Miami if she failed to calm down, to which the woman shouted even louder, “Venezuela previously owned the oil in Venezuela. My great hero Hugo Chavez nationalized the oil supply so that people with all of the oil… not Exxon Mobil would go away! The people own the oil.”
To add to her bizarre rant, the woman also reportedly was heard claimed that President Obama, “kills people on Tuesdays,” adding, “I know already the [police are coming to take me off the aircraft.] But before I’m arrested I’m going to say my piece. They already say they are arresting me so I’m going to tell you more.”
One keen commentator on Reddit, known as “upside down dog” was on that flight and recorded the woman smoking and ranting, as he wrote along with the video he took,
“While the plane was waiting on the tarmac for the police to arrive, she leans over to me and asks for a cigarette. She pulls one out of her bag and lights up. This is the point where I pull eject and run to the back of the cabin. The police arrive after 20 minutes and escort her off the plane. She only had a single drink on the plane (however, others told me she was pounding them back pretty hard in the terminal and she also was on prescription painkillers). The irony is that this sociology professor is focused mainly on women’s hysteria. Due to this, Customs was closed just long enough that me and most others on that flight missed our connection.”
It remains to be seen what action will be taken against the woman, by AA as well as the police, for her antics on the recent flight.
