A woman intent on catching the ceremonial wedding bouquet from the bride apparently forget she had her hands full and dropped a baby on the floor in the reception venue.
With wedding season in full swing, perhaps this now-viral video of the flowers fail gives a new definition to the term wedding “crashers.”
The woman who perhaps really wanted to be the next in line to get married, at least according to folklore , wasn’t even close to catching the bouquet after it was tossed in the air by the bride, however. See embedded footage below.
“As early as the 1300s, getting a piece of a bride’s clothing was considered lucky, so guests would try to tear off a piece of her dress. To escape the mob without injury, brides would toss their floral bouquets to distract the guests. Over the centuries, this evolved into unmarried female guests gathering around the bride to catch the good fortune that came with catching the bouquet,” eHow explained about the tradition.
The young child appears to have been unharmed in the bridal bouquet toss gone wrong, fortunately, according to the Daily Mail . “But one guest, in a video that has gone viral, is so intent on catching the flowers that she seems to forget she is holding a small child. As they fly towards her, the girl lets go of the child and reaches both hands into the air. The little girl crashes to the floor and tumbles over, but appears to escape without any injuries. And despite the best efforts of the girl who dropped her, the flowers are caught by someone behind the pair.”
It’s not established as yet if the woman in question is the baby’s mom, sister, or other relative or friend. That being said, the Uproxx website takes a dim view of the whole scenario. “This video illustrates just how wrong the tossing of a wedding bouquet can go. The whole myth of being ‘the next one’ to marry after catching a handful of dead flowers? Silly. The act of dropping one’s child to catch the dead flowers? Dedicated yet insane.”
Added USA TODAY : “The baby is ok. But a quick note to the woman holding it: Maybe bring down the intensity a few notches.”
