A woman died shortly after getting engaged to her longtime boyfriend by falling off a cliff in Ibiza.
The Daily Mail reports that 29-year-old Dimitrina Dimitrova fell off an Ibiza cliff seconds after accepting her boyfriend’s marriage proposal. According to police, Dimitrina lost her balance while jumping up and down to celebrate the good news. Her boyfriend popped the question around lunchtime on Tuesday.
The report further claims that her boyfriend may have chosen that particular beauty spot to ask her to marry him since it was an area known for its captivating sunset views.
Dimitrova fell 65 feet off of the cliff near the Cala Tarida resort on the west coast of Ibiza. After the fall, paramedics confirmed that the 29-year-old woman was still alive but had lost consciousness. However, she died at the scene minutes after the paramedics arrived.
Daily Mail reports that Dimitrova suffered a heart attack from the injuries caused by her fall. A local Civil Guard spokesman issued an official statement implying that no foul play was involved.
“Everything is pointing towards the death being the result of a tragic freak accident.”
An inside source shared more information on the background of the couple as well as the events leading up to Dimitrina’s tragic fall from the Ibiza cliff.
“Her boyfriend lived and worked on Ibiza. She had arrived two days earlier to visit him and look for work. She fell seconds after her partner surprised her by proposing to her as she jumped up and down with emotion.”
This is not the first tragic death or freak accident involving a couple standing near the edge of a cliff.
Back in August, a Polish couple took a selfie at a cliff’s edge in a popular tourism location in Cabo da Roca, Portugal. According to investigators, the couple fell from the cliff shortly after taking photos of themselves and landed in the Atlantic Ocean. The couple fell to their death while their young children (ages 5 and 6) watched the entire incident.
The bodies of the couple were recovered by a rescue team after the search was temporarily suspended due to inclement weather conditions.
There is also the case of Briton Gareth Jones. According to the Independent , the 25-year-old man fell from a cliff in Sydney and died shortly after enjoying the view of the sunrise.
In the case of Dimitrina Dimitrova, she was the only person who fell from the cliff. Her newly engaged fiance was not physically injured.
