There’s something about small children and their infectious joy – and their lack of concern about who’s watching or how they may look to onlookers – that sometimes makes us forget about our concerns and just enjoy the moment. This viral video of a little girl bursting into dance on a New York City subway platform is one of those moments.
The online video was recorded in November and posted this week by Coyote and Crow, a New York couple who was busking – that is, performing for tips – at the Bedford Avenue subway stop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
According to their website , Coyote and Crow are “a married couple from New York’s North Country living in Brooklyn. They make their living busking around New York City.”
“They play a mash up of folk-americana, bluegrass, and old time music with a big influence from rock’n’roll and early 60’s psychedelic rock. Sticking to traditional Jug-Band roots they play homemade and modified instruments. Thomas plays Banjo, Banjote and foot percusion with a homemade suitcase he built into a drum. Jaime plays a homemade Double Banjo Bass/Stand Up BB. They play songs about nature, folk tales, love, life experiences and cultural infulence. With a sound that’s hard to put a name on, they pour their heart and soul into every note.”
As of this post, nothing is known about the identity of the dancing girl , or whom she was with that day. She appears, at times, to be mimicking the dance moves of an adult woman in the video — perhaps her mom? At the end of the video, the subway dancer runs into the arms of what looks like a guy — perhaps her dad?
Comments on the video have been overwhelmingly positive, and reflect the joy that the subway dancer girl brought to the viewers’ lives.
