Las Vegas, NV — O.J. Simpson is now testifying in Clark County District Court in an attempt to obtain a new trial for his 2008 convictions for a memorabilia-related hotel room robbery.

Judge Linda Marie Bell has agreed to hear 19 motions form the Simpson defense team, now headed by Patricia Palm, mostly arguing that Simpson’s former attorney Yale Galanter provided inadequate representation and bad legal advice.
He is currently serving a 9 to 33 year prison sentence and could be eligible for parole in 2018.
In 2010, the Nevada Supreme Court upheld the Simpson conviction. Simpson filed a legal motion called a writ of habeas corpus in order to win this week’s hearings. As he takes the witness stand today, it would appear to be his final chance to overturn the robbery conviction by obtaining a full-blown new trial, a second bite at the apple so to speak.
Simpson, now 65, claims that he was wrongfully charged for trying to get back his own stuff in the 2007 incident. “Defense lawyers argued that he was merely trying to recover property that was rightfully his. Simpson has said he didn’t know that the five men who accompanied him to the Palace Station hotel had guns. But he was convicted in the gunpoint robbery and kidnapping of two sports memorabilia dealers.”
Simpson, the former Buffalo Bills superstar running back and Pro Football Hall of Famer, was found not guilty in Los Angeles criminal court of murdering Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman in 1995 in the so-called trial of the century. In 1997, he was found liable for $33.5 million in money damages in civil court for the wrongful death of both Simpson and Goldman. So far he has paid little or nothing on the judgment.
