You can watch NASA’s LADEE launch tonight, whether you’re in the range of viewing from the launch spot or further away — areas as far as Pittsburgh can do the former, and the rest of us can get a gander online.

NASA’s LADEE launch (the Lunar Atmosphere Dust Environment Explorer) is scheduled for 11:27 PM EST, or 8:27 PM for west coasters.

The LADEE launch will commence from Virginia’s Wallops Island, and the localish Washington Post explains how those in range can view the craft blast off before orbiting Earth and heading to the moon:

“Find a good view of the south-southeastern horizon so you can see above buildings and trees. Apartment balconies, higher ground and parking decks should suffice. Just after launch, the rocket will speed into orbit around the Earth. For the Washington area, NASA says, expect to see the initial stages about 13 degrees above the horizon.”

The image above shows the LADEE launch visibility range in a color-coded map. Doug Voss, launch manager at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility, said that the “vehicle will be launching at night, so it should be easily visible from a lot of locations on the East Coast.”

New York City residents can also get a special look at the LADEE launch, as a big screen in Times Square will be broadcasting the event live from 10:30 PM until one AM.

If you’re not in range, in the Big Apple, or simply prefer a defined viewing area to the vast expanse of a late-summer night sky, you can also tune in to the LADEE launch on NASA TV , and we’ve embedded the NASA channel below so The Inquisitr readers can view the live event.

Will you be watching the LADEE launch outside, or from the comfort of your couch?
