Niagara Falls is one of the world’s most recognizable tourist destinations, but most of the iconic imagery surrounding the site relates to the pure kinetic motion that the waterfalls stun viewers with. One climber, however, took a different look at Niagara Falls when he made a video about scaling the icy stretch that the falls become when winter hits. Will Gadd told CBC News what it was like to be first man to climb Niagara.
“It’s the biggest, coolest, wildest, most well-known waterfall in North America. As an ice climber, that’s very, very attractive… It took a while, but one thing led to another and before you knew it, I was standing underneath a waterfall – to the side of it… I’ve climbed things that are harder from a pure technical standpoint,” he said. “But from a putting it all together and keeping it safe standpoint, that was about the hardest climb of my life.”
