Dan Stevens (formerly of Downton Abbey fame) and Liam Neeson ( Non-Stop ) can be seen in the first trailer for their new crime drama A Walk Among The Tombstones , coming to theaters in September.
For Stevens, it’s a long ways away from the posh character of Matthew Crawley in the British sensation Downton Abbey . The actor left to pursue other opportunities, much to his legion of fans’ dismay.
A few pounds lighter and with a completely different appearance — dark hair and facial hair — Dan Stevens stars along new action hero Liam Neeson in the adaptation of Lawrence Block’s novel of the same name.
Gone are the lovely British accent and pleasant expression that Dan’s fans are used to, which are replaced by what appears to be a very credible American accent and distraught look as he desperately tries to bring his wife back home.
The same can be said about Neeson, who is seen with a scruffy look, long disheveled hair, and a beard at the beginning of the trailer.
In the flick — directed by Scott Frank ( The Wolverine, Marley & Me ) — Neeson plays a cop who is hired by a drug dealer, portrayed by Dan Stevens, who wants to find those responsible for kidnapping his wife before it’s too late.
Scott also wrote the script based on Lawrence Block’s novel which has the following synopsis :
“The wife of Kheran Khoury, heroin wholesaler, is killed after he haggles over the price of her ransom. With the help of two computer geniuses, a streetwise punk, drug lords and his friend, ex-cop Scudder, they track the killers through the back streets of Brooklyn.”

Following his departure from the British period drama, Dan Stevens took his young family and moved to the US for a stint on Broadway in the revival of The Heiress opposite Jessica Chastain.
Stevens has been trying hard to avoid any roles remotely close to that which made him famous, as was clear after he stepped up with a completely different physical appearance and in unexpected movie roles.
