Anytime these two giants of the Spanish League meet, all eyes turn to two of the biggest names in football, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. The rivalry is legendary and while both players deny there’s no personal animosity, it is clear they are hungry to prove who the best in the world truly is.
Last year, it was unquestionably Ronaldo’s year. The Portuguese superstar broke all kinds of records and his stellar season culminated with FIFA awarding him the Ballon D’Or for a second year in a row, while Messi could only watch and hope for next year.

A surprising loss to Athletic (1-0) on March 7, was later followed by another disappointing result in the UEFA Champions League to Schalke (3-4), a team they owned last season. Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates prevailed against Levante (2-0) on March 15.
As to Barcelona, they have won nine of their last 10-games, only losing to Malaga on February 21 and they still maintain a narrow lead over Real Madrid (one point) in La Liga , where they are currently in first place.
Despite their current shortcomings, Real Madrid’s coach Carlo Ancelotti is confident his team will rally and is standing by his starters. Following the victory against Levante, Ancelotti told Marca the lineup will remain unchanged for El Clasico.
“It’s quite clear for all to see what the system and the starting XI are going to be for El Clasico.”
“Unless I go crazy this week, it’s all clear. I’m not so sure who should go in goal, mind.”
As to Barcelona coach, Luis Enrique, Bleacher Report says he has decided on a lineup and the only expected change is the return of goalkeeper Claudio Bravo. Messi, Neymar, and Luis Suarez will face-off Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, and Karim Benzema.
