Sure, there were a couple of good jokes and funny skits on Saturday Night Live last night but the highlight of the show came during the musical performances. The Alabama Shakes were on SNL last night to perform “Hold On” and “Always Alright.”
The Alabama Shakes were nominated for three Grammy Awards this year. They lost best rock performance to the Black Keys, best new artist to Fun., and best recording package to Bjork.
The band may have walked away from the Grammy Awards without any awards but singer Brittany Howard won praise for her performance during the Levon Helm tribute with Elton John, Mavis Staples and the Zac Brown Band.
The Alabama Shakes have been a favorite of critics since the release of their album Boys Girls but it’s the band’s live performances that truly deserve notice. And last night, the Alabama Shakes gave it their all on SNL.
In addition to a great musical guest, last night’s episode also featured Ted Nugent at the State of the Union and Marco Rubio defending his love of water bottles .
