Kick off the Christmas season by watching the 2014 Rockefeller Center tree lighting ceremony on Wednesday, December 3. You don’t have to be in New York City to watch as the lights are turned on this year’s towering 85-foot Norway spruce — NBC will cover the annual holiday event live starting at 8 p.m. during the Christmas in Rockefeller television special.

According to NBC, the 13-ton Christmas tree will be decorated in 45,000 LED lights and topped off with a massive 9.5-foot-wide Swarovski star. Not only will the television special feature the 82nd annual tree lighting, it will also be a great night of musical entertainment for those who tune in to watch the holiday special on NBC.

The annual holiday spectacular will feature performances by Mariah Carey, Prince Royce, Darius Rucker and, of course, the famous Rockettes. Zap2It reports that Mariah Carey will open the show with a performance of her famous song All I Want for Christmas Is Y o u.
If that’s not enough entertainment for you, there will also be performances by Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, Cyndi Lauper, Seth MacFarlane, Sara Bareilles, LeAnn Rimes, Trisha Yearwood and many other celebrities.

This year’s 85-foot Christmas tree was donated by Dan and Rachel Sigafoos of Hemlock Township, Penna. NBC 4 New York states that the couple is excited that the 90-year-old-tree will be the center of attraction in NYC during the holiday season. Rachel tells NBC that she is a “big Christmas elf” and donating the tree is beyond her “wildest dreams.”
