Columbus, GA – A Walmart shopper has accidentally left a small bag containing meth at the checkout counter of a Georgia store.
According to local police, the bag of meth was found by a manager of the 2801 Airport Thruway retail store in Columbus. The man called cops after discovering the bag, which contained around 1.4 grams of the drug, at approximately 3am.
The search is now on for the owner of the meth, who was spotted by the store’s surveillance cameras. Police have described her as a white female with dark hair, about 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighing 110 pounds. She was wearing a white tank top and blue jeans with a coat.
According to a police report, the manager told authorities it was likely the meth had fallen out of the woman’s pocket as she paid and checked out merchandise at the counter by register No. 14.
The meth itself has been seized by police, who will present it as evidence should a suspect be identified.
Meth use in Georgia is rampant, according to the organizers of the Georgia Meth Project , a large-scale prevention program that aims to reduce usage of the drug in the state.
The program’s website reveals that 35% of Georgia teenagers see little to no risk in trying meth, 1 in 5 Georgia teens report that meth is easy to get, and 42% of child endangerment cases in Georgia involve meth. The charity adds:
“Meth is a drug that is crippling Georgia. The financial and social consequences of meth abuse are devastating. Meth is especially tempting for Georgia’s most vulnerable — teens and young adults.”
