Virgin Diaries is seeking to further stereotype virgins–at least that’s what it seems like with the shows latest star, Skippy, a 34-year-old Mormon man who still lives in his parents’ basement.
It seems like TLC may be trying less to make people who abstain from sex look like Tim Tebow and Lolo Jones, instead portraying them as socially awkward, not very attractive people (although I’m sure Skippy has an awesome personality.
PEOPLE magazine reports that in the new episodes of Diaries , which will air July 18 and July 25th, we will get to watch Skippy, who, instead of employing a wing-man at bars, takes his mother out as his “Wing Mom.”
As if that weren’t…well…different enough, the 34-year-old has his own set of Skippy-themed t-shirts, including slogans like “I made out with Skippy for three minutes, and all I got was this lousy T-shirt” and “Virginity Rocks.”
Skippy admits that, “The ideal girl isn’t thinking that her ideal guy still lives at home in Mom’s basement…but I do.” Armed with his t-shirts and his mom, the man asserts that, “I want a girl to be like, ‘Wait … How are you still single??”
Broadway World reports that, along with Skippy, viewers will also get to see a light-hearted look at the life of a 29-year-old lesbian virgin, who loves both Star Wars and dodgeball. Virgin Diaries seeks to track people like this, adult virgins, as they prepare themselves for the moment that they will, like Ryan and Shanna of the premiere episode, who found love, and caused probably one of the most awkward TV kisses ever.
The July 15th episode of Virgin Diaries on TLC will show an update of what the couple is like now (hopefully they’ve had plenty of practice by now).
