If you’re looking for a young virgin to marry, then you might want to try contacting the Chicago-area father who advertised his attractive godly daughter in an orthodox Christian magazine.

The editor of Christianity Today was forced to apologize after his magazine printed a classified ad for a church elder who is trying to marry off his eligible virgin daughter to the right man.

“Her: godly, gorgeous, athletic, educated, careered, humorous, travelled, bilingual, 26-year-old virgin.”

If that’s not enough to bring the suitors calling, then we’re not sure what will.

The ad, placed in the job section, also lists the eligible girl’s blog address, but it’s been turned private, so you’ll have to be specially invited if you want to learn more about her.

Any aspiring gentlemen who are looking to start courting the eligible young virgin must have the suitable qualifications.

“You: unworthy, though becoming less so daily.”

The Mirror has identified the church elder as Stephen Stewart and his virgin daughter as Rachel Stewart.

Christianity Today editor-in-chief Mark Galli tweeted out an apology March 4 for allowing the ad into his orthodox magazine.

“We at Christianity Today apologize for publishing a personal ad in our Marketplace section that has been rightly seen as demeaning and in poor taste.

“We want everything in our magazine to reflect beautiful orthodoxy, and this ad did not. We have taken a hard look at our ad review process, made some changes, and we can assure our readers no ad like this will appear again.”

While it’s not unheard of for newspapers and magazines to make errors, there were some readers who were genuinely upset over the virgin daughter ad , including the user yoh, reports the Religion News Service.

“What is more genuinely orthodox and biblical than treating your daughter like chattel property to be sold off to a suitor?”

Then there’s this from offended reader PsiCop .

“We have a 2 millennia old religion which has perpetuated the even-older notion that women are mere property to be bartered by the men in their lives.”

Before she made her blog private, virgin daughter Rachel defended her father online, saying she wasn’t offended, upset, or embarrassed. In a deleted Valentine’s Day post, she wrote her dad has a history of trying to set her up with prospective suitors, according to the Mirror .

“If this doesn’t work out, next I’ll find my face plastered on a billboard.”

Whether Stephen was really trying to sell off his virgin daughter like cattle or if he was only trying to encourage singles to seek the kingdom of God as Rachel argues, there were some users who were genuinely offended.

Along with comments on the magazine’s website, social media users also took to Twitter to express their disgust and offense at the ad they perceived as selling the daughter’s virginity. That’s what led Christianity Toda y editor Mark Galli to vow his magazine would never again print such an ad.

What do you think? Is it OK for father’s to advertise their single daughter’s availability, and how should he describe her if he does?
