It’s no secret that pets are considered natural objects of human attachment. In most cases, animal lovers tend to treat their pets like real members of the family. So, when a pet dies, the loss can be quite devastating and disheartening. Some people even go through a period of bereavement following the heartbreaking loss of a pet. Fortunately for one guy, a veterinarian understood the magnitude of his loss and made a phenomenal attempt to help the situation. Now he’s sharing the gesture with the world.

On Friday, December 12, a Reddit user shared a heartwarming note the veterinarian sent to him after he had to put his dog down. Here’s the poem from the letter.

The tide recedes, but leaves behind bright seashells on the sand.

The sun goes down, but gentle warmth still lingers on the land.

The music stops, yet echoes on in sweet soulful refrains.

For every joy that passes, something beautiful remains.

Although the touching poem was definitely beautiful, the veterinarian also took the time to include one more thing — the deceased dog’s paw-print.

Needless to say, the veterinarian’s highly commendable act of kindness has gone viral and touched the hearts of many viewers. Most who commented admitted they were moved to tears by the note, and others revealed the scenario reminded them of times when they suffered the same loss. Here’s what some had to say about the heartwarming gesture:

“I am awestruck by how considerate and touching this is. The pawprint makes me sad though,” one user said.

“I have never suddenly burst into tears so hard in my life. My dog is getting old but somehow I feel as if this helped me. Thank you for this,” another user said.

“I’ve never even owned a dog (d—it allergic family), but this s— made me tear right up,” another user admitted.

“I have tears in my eyes now. We had to put down our 18 years old poodle a few months ago, I still have a hard time trying to accept she’s not waiting for me at our front door after I come back from work like she did since I was in kindergarten. But at least, every time I see our front door there’s the vivid memory of her, and all the good memories with my friend for life come together every day. I have tears of joy in my eyes,” another user recalled.
