Veterans Day is November 11, a day that honors men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Because Friday is a federal holiday, many people are looking forward to enjoying a work-free long weekend, but it’s important not to forget the meaning of the day.
Originally established as Armistice Day in 1919, the holiday was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 by President Dwight Eisenhower. Listed as one of 10 federal holidays on OPM.gov , there is always some confusion as to the difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day.
According to the Baltimore Sun , Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans. Memorial Day, observed on the last Monday of May, honors those who died while serving in the U.S. military service.
