UFC News: Big Update On Potential Ronda Rousey Vs. Cris ‘Cyborg’ Fight

It was announced on Monday that Ronda Rousey’s next fight against Miesha Tate wouldn’t be taking place at AT&T Stadium, and that it wouldn’t be taking place on the same card as Conor McGregor vs. Jose Aldo. In fact, it’ll be taking place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, in January.

Some felt that December would be the perfect time to capitalize on the momentum of both Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor, and put them together on a super-card at AT&T Stadium. But, it appears that the UFC isn’t interested in going to the 100,000 seat stadium just yet.

There have been reports that the UFC had reached out to Cris “Cyborg” Justino, and asked her if she’d be able to fight Ronda Rousey in December at AT&T Stadium, but those reports were later refuted by UFC president Dana White .

While the UFC has denied offering Cris Cyborg a fight against Ronda Rousey, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has reported that the UFC has contacted Cyborg, and they’re trying to find out if she can make it down to 135 pounds.

“With ‘Cyborg,’ this is Dana White’s version of the story; that Sean Shelby called her ‘Cyborg’s’ people to find out how she’s doing, if she can make make 135 [pounds]. They didn’t offer her the fight with Ronda. They did say that they wanted her for a fight, but not with Ronda. Her people say that they offered her Ronda at [AT&T Stadium]. But they do want her on one of these shows to fight. Her nutritionist George Lockhart said that he can get her to 135 by December 5, which means she probably can by December 12.”

There is a belief that if the UFC brings Cyborg in, they’ll have her fight at 135 pounds one time before she fights Rousey, and that she would be on the undercard of a Ronda Rousey pay-per-view.

Another idea that has been thrown out there is that the UFC will hold off on the Rousey vs. Cyborg fight until UFC 200 next July, because they’re going to try to make that show the biggest UFC pay-per-view event of all-time, and a Rousey vs. Cyborg fight on that card would certainly help their cause.

So, finally, after all these years, it looks like both the UFC and Cris Cyborg are doing everything they can to make the fight with Ronda Rousey happen. So, if everything goes perfectly, the fight should happen by next July.
