Four years ago, Carlos Condit lost a split decision to Martin Kampmann. Last night during UFC fight night 27, Condit avenged his UFC debut loss with a decisive fourth-round technical knockout.
Condit fighting for revenge at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis won by stoppage at 0:54 of Round 4.
In their first match four years ago, Kampmann, 31, attempted to wrestling with Condit throughout the fight. This time around Kampmann once again took Condit to the floor several times before the match turned.
Despite his top position Kampmann (20-7) never managed to hurt Condit (29-7), and he soon looked tired as he executed lazy offensive maneuvers.
After the win, Condit had nothing but nice words for his opponent, “Martin’s a really well-rounded fighter.”
Condit then added, “He can take the fight wherever he wants, so we saw he was going to try and make it a grappling match. We tried to avoid that, and I was able to pick him apart with strikes.”
With a strong mixture of counter grappling and striking Condit regained momentum in his favor by then end of round 2. By early in the third, Kampmann’s face was showing the wear and tear of Condit’s strikes.
By the end of round 3, Condit’s damage to the face of Kampmann was even more apparent as his opponent wore a vertical cut near his right eyebrow. It was near the end of round 3 in which Condit attempted a standing choke that forced Kampmann to defend with a roll onto the floor. Condit won back control and nearly finished the match with a chokehold. Keeping with his aggressive but strategic pace, Condit continued to dominate into round 4.
Kampmann attempted to become more aggressive in the fourth round, but Condit stood his ground and landed several power shots. Condit landed a kick to the body followed by several alternating hooks to his opponents head. Condit then hit with a hook to the body that caused Kampmann’s hands to fall before he attacked his opponents knees.
After a quick and vicious assault, the match was called by referee Herb Dean.
With his 29-7 UFC record in tow, Condit said he would love a title shot but is also happy to take on many other “interesting” welterweight division opponents.
