Ubisoft Is Now Working With Hasbro

Ubisoft has made a new deal and will be making games for Hasbro.

Ubisoft seems to be taking over the video game world lately. What was once simply the creator of Rayman and then the hit series Assassin’s Creed is now poised to launch Watch Dogs and a slew of new games based on Hasbro properties.

Why is this relevant, you might ask? Habro is the toy company behind G.I. Joe, Transformers, Furby, My Little Pony, and Pokemon. While Pokemon is already extremely successful under the ownership of Gamefreak, it’s doubtful that Ubisoft will undermine Nintendo in owning the rights to the property.

In this deal between Ubisoft and Hasbro, it has been stated that Ubisoft will be making video games based on popular board games such as Monopoly, Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Risk, Battleship , and Cranium. Unfortunately, the toy properties are not as likely to be made into video games, though some of us would love to see a mash-up between G.I. Joe and Transformers. My Little Pony fanatics, also known as “bronies,” would no doubt love to see a game supporting that franchise as well.

Alas, we can dream.

Seeing as board games have usually not done well on consoles, this appears to be an unusual move on the part of Ubisoft, but with yearly releases of Assassin’s Creed and a new series coming in the vein of Watch Dogs, the video game titan seems to have no worries on the horizon.

Hasbro’s senior Vice President Mark Blecher has made the statement, “Ubisoft’s leadership and expertise in the console gaming space will help support Hasbro’s strategy of bringing consumers engaging play experiences with our brands across multiple platforms.”

Hopefully we can get more engaging digital versions of the popular board games and bring Battleship, Monopoly, and Risk into a new era. Of course, Trivial Pursuit could have its work cut out for it with You Don’t Know Jack, but if anyone can pull it off, it’s Ubisoft.

What do you think of Ubisoft working with Hasbro?
