As the Inquisitr previously reported, the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets were the top two franchises looking to acquire 27-year-old guard Ty Lawson if he were made available. Tonight, the Denver Nuggets shipped Lawson and a second round pick to the Rockets in exchange for a 2016 first round pick, as well as Pablo Prigioni, Joey Dorsey, Nick Johnson, and Kostas Papanikolaou, according to ESPN .

Lawson, who played collegiately at North Carolina, has found himself in trouble with the law twice this year alone for drunk driving , and is currently admitted in a rehab facility for substance abuse.

Last season with Denver, Ty averaged 15.2 points per game, to go along with 9.6 assists, and 3.1 rebounds over 75 regular season games, per Basketball Reference .

Through six professional seasons in the NBA, Lawson has averaged 14.2 points per game, 6.6 assists, and 2.9 rebounds.

Here are some immediate reactions from Twitter.

Shocked Denver didn’t hold out for an asset for Ty Lawson. That deal would’ve been there 3 weeks from now. What other PG’s on the block?

Seeing so much on Ty Lawson’s ineffectiveness on defense. Dude – Jason Terry covered Steph Curry in the playoffs. It’s an upgrade regardless

Ty Lawson will put up All-Star numbers in Houston and then Daryl Morey will finish 9th in EOY voting again.

After a dramatic week, Ty Lawson is finally gettin some good news. Houston should be a great landing spot for him.

New Nuggets coach Michael Malone was extremely ecstatic with rookie PG Emmanuel Mudiay’s play at summer league prior to the Ty Lawson deal.

Don’t care much about how Ty Lawson fits with the Rockets. He’s got major issues to deal with, no matter what city he’s in. Wish him luck.

Watch out for the Rockets next year. With Ty Lawson, they are lookin real good on paper

— Jake Frankel (@TheHebro5) July 20, 2015

Ty Lawson went to the Rockets? The West is loaded. Move the Cavs to the West and just get rid of the Eastern Conference @NBA

— Full Court Prez (@fullcourtprez) July 20, 2015

With the addition of seventh overall pick Emmanuel Mudiay in Denver following the 2015 NBA Draft, Lawson (along with his off the court issues) became expendable.

What do you make of Ty joining up with James Harden in Houston? Is this a good move by the Rockets?
