It’s widely known that Twilight fans can get a little crazy when it comes to teenage vampire Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson. One fan, however, has taken it to a whole new level of fandom. Lauren Adkins, a 25-year-old native of Las Vegas, got married to Edward.
Or rather, a cardboard cutout of him.
The Twilight standee, which Adkins found in a record store, was by her side so often that her friends finally started joking that she should just get married to him. In the end, that’s what she did. Last year, Cardboard Edward stood stoic and smoldering by her side as the two wed at the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel.
So how much does a wedding to a Twilight Edward cutout cost? In this case, $3,200.
“I held the reception at an art gallery and ordered champagne and a five-tier cake to share with my 50 guests. For as long as I can remember I’ve been obsessed with romantic fairytale endings,” said Adkins. “When I was a child, I watched the Disney versions of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ and ‘Cinderella’ until the tapes wore out.”
You can even see the red rose boutonniere Adkins pinned onto the cutout for the wedding ceremony. But why would she marry a cardboard cutout, no matter how much she loves the Twilight books and movies?
“Of course he was made from cardboard, but that didn’t matter to me. Suddenly I was taken over with an urge to have him,” she said.
Adkins’ Twilight cutout husband cost her a mere 20 dollars.
Adkins told the Mirror that they honeymooned in Los Angeles, where she and her Twilight husband even hiked up to the Hollywood sign.
“I had to carry him, and we had to do it at night because he can’t be in the sun,” said Adkins. “But everyone makes sacrifices for the man they love, right?”
There’s more to the story, however. According to MTV News , Adkins planned the wedding for two years as part of her college thesis on celebrity obsessions and pop culture fantasies. The wedding was broadcast live on the internet as part of her final thesis performance for her Master of Fine Arts degree. Adkins raised over $1,200 on Indiegogo to fund the event.
The real Robert Pattinson has found love as well, as the star is reportedly dating singer FKA Twigs .
