Trump Impeachment Coming? He’s ‘Leading Himself’ To It, Says Congresswoman

Is a Trump impeachment coming? According to a California congresswoman, President Trump is “leading himself” to it.

A division of party lines in Washington, D.C., and the contempt many Democrats feel for the new president isn’t a newsflash, but one senator is giving her take of how President Trump could get impeached over his actions.

Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters spoke with CNN on Monday at a press conference about why she believes a potential Trump impeachment could be a reality. She tweeted last Friday that she desired to “lead” President Trump into impeachment after sharing with followers what she told the video news network, Cheddar , in an interview last week. When she expounded on her words with CNN, Waters explained that she hasn’t “called for an impeachment yet,” but asserts that the president is doing a good job of doing it to himself.

“I have not called for the impeachment yet. He’s doing it himself. Let me just say that the statement I made is a statement in response to questions and pleas that I’m getting from many citizens across this country. What are we going to do? How can a President who is acting in the manner that he’s acting?”

Waters discussed the travel ban executive order, “the way he’s talking about Muslims,” and his puzzling admiration of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The congresswoman said a Trump impeachment is possible due to his conduct in leading the nation. When it gets to the point of people asking, “What are we going to do,” Waters says eventually “we’ve got to do something about him” because the nation “cannot continue to have a President who’s acting in this manner. It’s dangerous to the United States of America.”

The congresswoman continued that Trump is causing “chaos and division.” She cited his refusal to release his tax returns and the conflicts of interest many still question, presumably about his business ties.

“And because we have suspicions — many of us — about who is, where he came from, what his actions are, and all of his conflicts… we have to find out more about him and some of that leads to the possibility of impeachment.”

According to the report about Trump “leading himself” to impeachment in Waters’ words, a White House official declared that the congresswoman used “extreme rhetoric from a completely out-of-touch party.” The official maintains that Waters “lost control and perspective” in her view on impeaching Trump.

Furthermore, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi responded to the subject of impeaching the president and had a less urgent tone. At a press conference on Monday, Pelosi said impeachment will only be an issue for Trump “when and if” he breaks the law.

Pelosi reacted to Waters’ comments about Trump leading himself to impeachment — countering some of her points about the president’s demeanor.

“Any of the things that the congresswoman said are grounds for displeasure and unease in the public about the performance of this President, who has acted in a way that is strategically incoherent, that is incompetent and that is reckless. And that is not grounds for impeachment.

“When and if he breaks the law, that is when something like that would come up, but that is not the subject of today.”
