Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are patient when it comes to the real estate market.
The couple bought a Pacific Palisades home back in 1989, when Tom was fresh off his Oscar nomination for Big and was on the cusp of becoming a bona fide Hollywood star. Now, with long careers behind them and three other properties on their hands, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are looking to sell the home for a crisp $5.225 million.
Three years ago the couple picked up a larger and much more Holllywood-fitting $26 million estate. In case they get bored there, Tom and Rita can head over to the Malibu County property they picked up in 1991 or the one they bought in 2010 for $1.45 million.
The Pacific Palisades home for sale is being billed as a “legendary villa” complete with privacy walls and hedges. The Spanish-style home has 6,289 square feet, four bedrooms, and five and a half baths. Inside there are decorated archways and frescoed ceilings with chandeliers.
But the highlight of the home Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are selling is said to be the many loggias and patios outside, complete with lavish gardens.
The price tag on the mansion might be high for the average person, but it’s doubtful anyone thinks Hanks is trying to swindle potential buyers. The actor was named the “ Most Trusted Person in America ” in a recent poll from Reader’s Digest — a good quality when it comes time to selling a mansion.
It seems that Tom is just ready to upgrade his living quarters. At 56, he’s garnered such a good reputation that he has his pick of roles, and he’s got a couple of big ones coming up. He’s signed on to play Walt Disney in Saving Mr. Banks , a movie about the production of Mary Poppins . Hanks is also playing the title character in Captain Phillips , a movie about the 2009 Somali pirate kidnapping.
