Tom Brady is not endorsing Donald Trump after all.

The New England Patriots quarterback is clarifying a comment he made earlier this month, which made it appear as though he was endorsing the Republican candidate. Brady was first asked about Trump when a “Make America Great Again” hat was seen in his locker room. At the time, Brady said the hat was a “nice keepsake” and added that it would be “great” if Trump was to win the election.

“I hope so,” Brady said when asked if he thought Trump could win the presidential election. “That would be great. There’d be a putting green on the White House lawn. I know that.”

Everyone, including Donald Trump, saw Brady’s comments as an endorsement . Later that day, Trump tweeted a message to Brady, along with the link to a CNN article. His tweet was later retweeted 3,500 times and favorited almost 5,000 times by Trump’s supporters, who were apparently excited for the Super Bowl champion to be endorsing their candidate.

“A great honor from somebody that knows how to win!” Trump wrote .

Despite his original comments, on Tuesday, September 29, Brady clarified that his words were “taken out of context,” and he wasn’t sure which way he would be voting in the 2016 election.

“I think that it’s just a different world than when I started in professional football. Even an offhanded comment like that… that people may run with,” Brady told the Boston radio station WEEI. “I mean it’s just people doing their job. I mean a comment like that… I try to have fun with certain things.”

“Whatever I vote is going to be my own personal choice based on how I feel,” Brady said. “I don’t even know what the issues are. I haven’t paid attention to politics in a long time so… It’s actually not something that I really even enjoy. It’s way off my radar.”

Although he admits he wasn’t endorsing Trump, Brady described him as “a fun guy that I’ve had a lot of time around,” adding that they have known each other for years and have spent many days on the golf course together. However, he said it is too early to be planning on who will be the next president, and he realized he needed to clear up his comments.

“One way or another, I mean it’s so far away from when the election will be,” Brady said.

Donald Trump’s popularity has shocked many as the number of Trump supporters continue to grow. However, at least as of now, Tom Brady isn’t endorsing the politician. What do you think about Tom Brady backtracking on his Donald Trump endorsement comments? Leave your comments below.
