While John Travolta’s Oscar kiss was considered creepy by most, Scarlett Johansson is standing up for the Hollywood actor, saying his kiss was a “welcome encounter” and there was nothing “creepy” about it at all.
That awkward moment when 61-year-old Travolta put his arm around Johansson’s waist at the Oscars and gave her a Joe Biden-like smackeroo caused an uproar recently both at the Oscars themselves and also on the social media.

The photos captured of the moment, making it look like 30-year-old Scarlett was totally horrified, and they immediately went viral. As noted on Page Six , memes bloomed like flowers on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook with the Pulp Fiction actor kissing many and varied people. One example is included here.

However, while she may have looked horrified, Johansson told Associated Press Thursday that there was “nothing strange, creepy or inappropriate about John Travolta.” She defended him, calling him a “class act” and said that the taking of the photo was simply bad timing.
“The image that is circulating is an unfortunate still-frame from a live-action encounter that was very sweet and totally welcome.”
“That still photo does not reflect what preceded and followed if you see the moment live.”

In fact, the Daily Mail has a far less publicized image taken backstage of Johansson happily hugging Travolta . Apparently she hadn’t seen him “for ages” and was, in fact, thrilled to have the encounter with her old friend.
“I haven’t seen John in some years and it is always a pleasure to be greeted by him.”
Johansson added that the photo did not represent the moment at all, there was nothing “creepy” and saying it is “yet another way we are misguided, misinformed and sensationalized by the 24-hour news cycle.”
Travolta was also targeted on the social media for pawing Idina Menzel. However, as reported on the Inquisitr , they were just reminding everyone of how Travolta mispronounced Menzel’s name at last year’s Oscars, rather unfortunately calling her “Adele Dazeem.”
