The Walking Dead ‘s David Morrissey doesn’t mind when fans of the zombie series boo at him. In fact, he takes it as a compliment.

Morrissey said the reaction means he is “doing a good job” as The Governor .

“The Walking Dead really has introduced me to a massive fanbase all over the world. It’s one of the biggest shows on TV,” the 49-year-old English actor said.

“My fanbase in America has really grown, and I love that – they’re very vocal fans, and amazing and I find it so heart-warming to be amongst them – even though they boo me because I’m the villain! But that means I’m doing a good job.”

Morrissey added, “I’m on Twitter so I get messages from South America and the Far East, Europe and everywhere, all over the world.”

SPOILER ALERT AHEAD. DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE WALKING DEAD MIDSEASON FINALE, “TOO FAR GONE.”

Although The Governor is stabbed by Michonne and then shot in the head by Lilly in the midseason finale, David Morrissey wouldn’t say whether or not he would be returning for the series’ fifth season next year.

“Something happened to him. I feel like a shady politician where I can’t confirm and I can’t deny anything… Certainly, bad things befell him at the end of the last episode but we just have to wait and see,” he said.

END SPOILER.

AMC will be playing a marathon of The Walking Dead beginning on New Year’s Eve at 9 am. Beginning with the pilot episode, the marathon will go through each episode of the series in chronological order, wrapping up on January 2 at 5 am. The series returns on February 9.
