Is Donald Trump the latest victim of Godwin’s Law? It appears that the Hitler comparisons can’t stop and some are wondering if that’s an insult to those who truly were victims of Hitler’s actions.
For those who don’t know, Godwin’s Law refers to when someone compares someone or something they don’t like to Hitler. It’s considered an insult to those who were truly a victim of Hitler’s actions. This didn’t cross the mind of Louis C.K. the other day when, according to USA Today , he compared Trump to Hitler .
“‘Please stop it with voting for Trump. It was funny for a little while. But the guy is Hitler. And by that I mean that we are being Germany in the 30s,’ he writes after the P.S. of his email about Episode 6 of his show,” the article quoted C.K. as saying.
There have been others comparing Trump to Hitler as well, even the President of Mexico. Today, Joy Behar introduced a segment about the topic on The View , with a question a lot had on their minds.
“You know, for years I’ve been hearing ‘Don’t make comparisons to Hitler; there was only one Hitler’…and suddenly, Louis C.K. is comparing him to Hitler, Bill Maher, SNL . Is that a fair comparison you think?”
Jedediah Bila said that she believes it’s wrong, indicating that she doesn’t like it when Obama is compared to Hitler either. She did indicate, however, that SNLcould get away with it since it is a comedy show. Sonny Hostin disagreed with Bila; she believes Trump courts that criticism when he refused to disassociate himself with groups known to be racist.
Michelle Collins read an eye-opening editorial from the New York Times that was published in 1922. The article said that Hitler’s anti-Semitism wasn’t genuine or violent; he was just using anti-Semitism to attract a base of followers. It’s interesting because even though some people don’t think Trump is racist, he’s using extremist groups to capture a following.
“I spoke with the campaign last week. I covered him on Super Tuesday. The big take away is that he is attracting first-time voters, crossover voters. There are a lot of Democrats that are voting for him,” Paula Faris responded.
Faris added that to make a generalization that you are racist if you are voting for Trump is just plain wrong. Many people agreed with Faris’ assessment on Twitter.
Honestly, no matter how much you dislike Trump, it’s just wrong to compare him to Hitler. Just stop. That’s too much & terribly wrong.

However, there is still a small amount of Twitter users who think the Hitler comparison is absolutely accurate.
@TheView While Trump is obviously not Hitler, he also obviously admires Hitler and the comparisons that have been made are accurate.

No matter what people think about Trump, it appears that nothing the media says has stopped him. Trump is easily the front-runner for the Republican party. Whether Trump is good for the Republican party or will destroy whatever is left of it is, however, a legit question that some Republicans are even asking.
