In tonight’s episode of The Vampire Diaries, “We All Go A Little Mad Sometimes,” Elena is plagued by hallucinations after killing Connor the Vampire Hunter last week .
These hallucinations cause Elena to make an almost fatal mistake and hurt someone she loves very much. In addition to doubting herself now that she is a vampire, Elena also doubts her love, Stefan, demanding space after she found out that Stefan has been working with Klaus.
Stefan has yet to tell her that the reason he is working with their enemy is in order to find a cure for vampirism. Mostly because he wants to save her from the pain of knowing that she ruined her own chances of being cured by killing Connor.
The map to the cure’s location was part of the Vampire Hunter’s tattoos, but the map could only be completed if Connor continued to kill vampires. Last week he attempted to do that by holding their human friends hostage. But he made a grave mistake by kidnapping Jeremy, and after Elena arrived she killed him out of revenge.
Caroline, Hayley, and Tyler have their own drama to deal with this week. They manage to convince Klaus there is trouble in paradise when Caroline shows up at Tyler’s house to drop off his things, pretending to break up with him.
Klaus leaves to let them be alone and talk things out. He heads over to Elena’s house to “help” her. Because he killed the original five Vampire Hunters, he knows better than anyone the consequences involved in murdering one of them.
He arrives at Elena’s house and is able to whisk her away from the Salvatore brothers. He takes her to a safe house in order to try to help her get over her hallucinations. Klaus explains that the consequences of killing a Hunter is that you will start having hallucinations that try to convince you to kill yourself.
Stefan and Bonnie reach out to Professor Shane for answers about how to help Elena. Is he hiding his true motivations from Bonnie? And can Elena get past what she has done before she accidentally hurts someone else, or commits suicide?
