‘The Settlers: Kingdoms Of Anteria’ Is Ubisoft’s Attempt For ‘A Completely New Game Experience’

The Settlers: Kingdoms of Anteria is the next in Ubisoft’s series and promises something different.

Ubisoft is known for their tendency to take gaming to an epic level without turning it into a role-playing game. Assassin’s Creed tends to focus on one character while occasionally giving you management over a settlement, a group of assassins, or a fleet of pirate ships. Watch Dogs lets you hack into a city-wide security system.

The latest in the Settlers series will combine real-time strategy and city building for what Ubisoft promises to be “a completely new game experience.”

The question some veterans of the series will probably ask right off is how it will be anything new. The Settlers 7 , or Paths to a Kingdom , was also a mix between real-time strategy and city building. What’s different this time?

Much like their promise with The Settlers: Kingdoms of Anteria , Assassin’s Creed: Unity was said to be rebuilt in its core gameplay, but it still looks like the same game we’ve been playing for nearly a decade now.

Ubisoft claims that in Kingdoms of Anteria , “you will build up a prosperous economy and lead your champion through dangerous adventures in order to create a wealthy, bustling and glorious kingdom .”

This mostly differs from other RTS games by giving you control of a single character instead of a nameless army like the Age , Command and Conquer , and StarCraft games usually do. Many games of the sort differ in how you gather resources and expand your territory, and usually offer different ways to attack a variety of enemy civilizations.

There is no doubt that Ubisoft will offer a quality game with the new Settlers . Their ability to produce a quality game has improved over the last decade, even if a few bad ones still slip through ( Assassin’s Creed III ).

What do you think will be different in The Settlers: Kingdoms of Anteria ?
