‘The Martian’ Named One Of The Year’s Best Movies

The Martian is being critically-acclaimed before it even hits theaters, and it’s been named one of the year’s best movies. At least according to one reviewer from the Huffington Post .

“It’s like the film operates at zero gravity,” the reviewer claims. “It’s nerdy if you want it to be, but there is nothing fussy or ornate to weight it down.”

Others are calling it Interstellar with quips, breathing fresh life into a story similar to the Matthew McConaughey film, but without the epic flop.

The film stars Matt Damon (who consequently showed up in Interstellar dressed in a space suit and everything, perhaps a sign of what was coming next), and critics are claiming him to be at his finest. It’s a survival story about Mark Watney (Damon), who is an astronaut on a very special mission. After several complications with the mission, Watney gets stranded on Mars and works tirelessly to find a way back home.

Luckily, Watney is one of the world’s brightest and finest scientists and technologists, so he has no problem sending a message back home, letting the world know he’s not dead. And the world responds by trying to find a way to get him home.

The story is extremely well done, without plot holes and unsatisfying character development. The story is clear and complete and the characters within exciting, interesting, and worth investing your emotions in.

The supporting cast also revealed great potential. Jessica Chastain, Michael Pena, Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Jeff Daniels, Askel Hennie, Chitewel Ejofor, Kristen Wiig, and Donald Glover are All-Stars in their performances as both the protagonists and antagonists when it comes to getting “The Martian” home safely.

Ridley Scott really showed up for this film after several years of delivering subpar work. People recognize him for his films Alien, Blade Runner, and American Gangster , but none of his films since that time have taken off like the others.

Reviews are also claiming that the film is one of very few that is actually worth a Best Picture nomination, and that it’s expected to do very well in the box office. It’s a fresh film that steps out of the mold of superheroes and secret missions and enters a world of real people with powerful emotions.

It’s a space odyssey film that’s actually effective in telling a good story, perhaps because it was adapted from the popular novel by Andy Weir.

The Martian isn’t set to hit theaters in the United States until October 2, and at that point, we’ll be able to form our own opinions about whether or not it’s the best film of the year.
