The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword could be remade with high-definition graphics.
Series producer Eiji Aonuma told Polygon that both games were tested in HD when Nintendo was experimenting with the Wii U hardware.
“When we were thinking about the new Zelda for Wii U , which is something we’re actually working on, we needed to experiment with a variety of graphic styles and it was part of that process we took some existing Zelda games and made them HD just to see what would happen,” Aonuma said.
“In doing so we realized that The Wind Waker graphic style, the art style, really represented well on the Wii U given the graphic capabilities of the new system. It really brought that world to life,” he added.
Aonuma said that the experiment with Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword was part of the reason he decided to do an HD remake of The Wind Waker . He also said there is a chance those title will get HD remakes as well.
“I can’t say that the possibility is zero that those will be made into HD, but right now I need to work on the next installation in the series so I don’t have the bandwidth to do that right now,” he said. “But maybe it will happen if someone else does it.”
In a separate interview with IGN, Eiji Aonuma laughed at the idea of a Majora’s Mask remake . The game was first released for the N64 in 2000 and came out on the Wii Virtual Console in 2009. When Ocarina of Time was remade for the 3Ds in 2011, fans requested that Majora’s Mask get the same treatment.
“Please write that I laughed,” Aonuma said. “Don’t make it sound like I laughed because I was troubled or inconvenienced or put out. I don’t want them to read anything into it. But if you want to say that I laughed, I think that would be a good answer.”
Aonuma said it was up to fans to interpret what he meant by his laughter.
