Nickelodeon released the first trailer for the fourth and final season of The Legend of Korra on Friday, and it’s possibly the most dramatic change from one season to the next yet. It all starts by jumping ahead three years.
“Here is the Book 4 trailer Bryan and I personally oversaw,” The Legend of Korra writer Michael Dante DiMartino posted on his Facebook page . “This being the final season, we wanted to create one last awesome trailer. But we couldn’t have done it without Jeremy Zuckerman’s score, Chris Hink’s editing, Matt Gadbois’ motion graphics, and Matt Cawood and Joe Alessandra’s CG work.”
The Book 4 trailer is full of tidbits of information and appearances. The final season of The Legend of Korra is titled Balance , following Book Three: Change . The show jumps three years into the future following the events of last season. Tenzin’s kids more mature and now sporting wingsuits as an upgrade from their staff gliders.
Meanwhile, Korra herself has evidently recovered from her injuries at the end of Book 3 , but the psychological and emotional impact appears to have carried over. It looks like she eventually goes on a journey to find herself and, dare I say, balance.
The balance theme seemingly carries over to the four nations as well. The Earth Kingdom was rocked by revolution at the end of the third season and what has risen in its place from looks like a potential mirror to the Fire Kingdom from the days of Avatar: The Last Airbender ; an aggressive militaristic force. Additionally, it’s being led by the Metal Clan?
Kuvira , a metal bending character introduced in the third season, is interestingly the leader of this new militarized Earth Kingdom force. It looks like there are mechs and plenty of other action coming from that front alone.

The Legend of Korra: Book 4 will premiere October 3 on Nick.com. Yes, you read that right. Nickelodeon stopped airing the show midway through last season after bungling the marketing and release schedule of the show. It’s created some animosity between fans, show creators , and the channel. Still, if you are in search of a television show for kids that feature strong female characters and male characters of all ages, it’s worth checking out.
