Just in time for San Diego Comic Con, director Peter Jackson has unveiled a new, spectacular poster for the last part of his trilogy, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (boy, that’s a mouthful!). In the image we see the feared dragon, Smaug, descending upon Lake-Town, while Bard the Bowman stands alone, ready to protect his people.

Jackson — who is legendary for his generosity towards his fans — shared the new poster on his Facebook page on Wednesday, and the social media went wild. On Tuesday, The Inquisitr reported about a new image from The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies , which shows Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and Bard the Bowman (Luke Evans) staring into the distance with a worried look upon their faces.

The new poster couldn’t come soon enough for fans who have been waiting years to see the conclusion of the trilogy, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies , formerly known as The Hobbit: There and Back Again . In 2013 and 2012, Jackson released the two previous installments in a move that mirrored the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Jackson confessed that he had not planned to make The Hobbit into a trilogy, but had so much extra footage that he could make a new trilogy, so why not? Devoted fans of J.J.R. Tolkien can’t get enough, even though many complain that the Kiwi director is stretching the story a bit too far and taking too many licenses. After all, The Hobbit is only made up of one tome.

In The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug , the company of dwarves — led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) — finally finds their lost home, Erebor. However, in the process they unleash the dormant beast, Smaug the dragon (Benedict Cumberbatch), who is as ruthless as ever.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is the conclusion to the events we have witnessed in the two previous installments and will feature the epic battle between the Goblins and the Wargs, against the Men of Dale, Elves, Dwarves, Eagles, and a shape-shifter in the Lonely Mountain.

Even though Peter Jackson has submitted a trailer to Warner Bros., he informed fans it won’t be released until October, following the blueprint from the previous productions. However, since Jackson usually has something up his sleeve, we can expect a bone during The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies panel at San Diego Comic Con . Stay tuned.
